The show runs through the month of December, if you can't make it on Thursday, so stop in and take a peek!
Next week, on Thursday, December 8th, there will be an opening reception for the Batavia Society of Artists Members Winter Art Show, from 6:30 - 8:00pm at the Richmond Memorial Library Gallery in Batavia, NY. I'll have 5 paintings in the show, so if anyone is in the vicinity of Batavia, come on over to check out all the art and say hi! My lovely wife & kids will be there, as well as many very nice, creative people. There will also be a Painting Raffle Drawing at 7:00pm, and probably some fruit trays, cheese & crackers and stuff like that.

Woo-hoo! I just received some wonderful news! Last September I submitted a proposal for an individual artist grant from the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralized Grant Program, which is administered through GOArt (Genesee-Orleans Regional Arts Council) in Batavia. And today I got a letter saying my grant for $2,500 to paint an exterior mural on the Bergen Library was approved!
The mural is to be completed by the first week in June of 2017, with an opening reception on June 10th, the same day as the Bergen Park Festival. In early September I showed one sample idea I made to the Bergen Town Board and then to the Library Board of Trustees, and they all really liked what I came up with. So now I have about four months to come up with the final design. I am incredibly thrilled! That is all for now. About the second week of this past September I did a door mural for the Tonawanda Federal Credit Union in Batavia, NY. I'm calling it 'Purple Passion', based on an earlier painting I made on canvas. This is part of a Batavia public art series that was organized by Brian Kemp. Two other artists also did paintings on the two other doors of the drive-through teller side of the credit union. It was very fun to paint on something that size! And good practice. I've applied for an individual artist's grant through GOArt in Batavia to do a much larger mural on the Byron-Bergen Public Library in the Spring. I won't know if I get the grant until December.
I've recently added a couple of paintings to the gallery; a somewhat bizarre self portrait and a painting of one of the Bergen Swamp Pocock Trail boardwalks. The Bergen Swamp is a unique environment near my home. Check out their website for more information: http://bergenswamp.org/.
The 'Swamp' is actually a very old woodland that's home to some unique species of plants and critters. Being there is like going back thousands of years in time. I've been going there for many, many years. I'm thinking of doing a series of paintings of the different aspects of Bergen Swamp, starting with this recent painting and the one called 'Edge of the Forest' which is partially shown in this blog header picture. I should have more paintings to ad soon. |
